Winter Skincare
Winter can be tough on our skin! See below tips and tricks to protect and glow all season long.
Keep Calm and SPF On
Many of us have the urge to ditch our SPF in the winter months, we think that when it isn’t warm we don’t need it. This couldn’t be further from the truth! The UV rays are still present and SPF should be applied regularly.
Cover Up!
Make sure you are using appropriate winter outerwear like scarves, hats and gloves. This is especially important if you are using active products like acids, retinol and retinoids- to name a few.
Fats are friends
This is a great time to add lipid based moisturizers and oils into your skin care routine as a final step. This acts as an occlusive barrier to lock in the moisture that you naturally have, along with any that you have added during the other steps of your skincare routine. Keep in mind that pure oils not always the answer- it is best to have it mixed into your moisturizer or cleanser. It is a great cost effective way to take what you are using and adjust it to the temperature.
Lip Service
As stated above for the skin we want to do the same for our lips! Reach for your chapstick or lip balm only after you have moisturized your lips underneath. It adds very little moisture but locks in everything underneath.
Give your cleanser a second look
This is a great time to incurerate a gentle cleanser to ensure that we aren’t stripping the skin barrier and removing moisture. Two things t watch out for a re alcohol and fragrance, they can be very stripping and drying, two things we try to avoid in the winter months!
Glow from the inside out
Water and lipid rich foods like avocado and ones containing omegas will support all of the work you are doing on the outside and give you that glow from within.
Keep it cool
Keep showers, baths and facial cleansing luke warm. Hot water strips the skin of moisture and the oils that lock moisture in.
