Upgrade Your Water - Wannabe Ginger Ale

Hello Friends and Enemies,

It’s a new year, which means we’re all doing our best to pretend we’re “better people” now. Maybe it’s cutting back on sugar, drinking more water, or just making fewer regrettable life choices. Whatever your goals, let’s at least make your beverage game as healthy as it is delicious. Enter: wannabe ginger ale that’s so easy and so good for you, it might just become your favorite “I’m-so-healthy” flex.

Why Ginger and Lemon Deserve the Hype

First, let’s give credit where it’s due. Ginger is like nature’s overachiever. It’s anti-inflammatory, helps digestion, boosts circulation, and even supports your immune system—basically, it’s your body’s personal assistant. Plus, it’s great for your skin because improved circulation means better glow.

Then there’s lemon juice. Loaded with vitamin C, it’s the ultimate skin-brightening ingredient. It helps fight free radicals, detoxifies your system, and keeps your hydration on point. Together, ginger and lemon are the dynamic duo your body and your face will thank you for.

Bonus extra- this delicious concentrate will have you happy to drink your water and we all know increased hydration=increased glow.

The Recipe: Wannabe Ginger Ale

Ingredients:

  • 2 knobs of ginger (roughly the size of your thumb or larger, because we don’t skimp here )skin removed

  • Juice of 2 lemons

  • 1 tablespoon of sweetener of choice (agave, maple syrup, or simple syrup—because we’re fancy but flexible)

  • 1 cup of water

  • Pinch of salt (trust me, it’s essential for balance)

Directions:

  1. Throw the ginger, lemon juice, sweetener, and water into a blender. Blend until smooth—think ginger smoothie vibes.

  2. If pulp isn’t your thing, pass the mixture through a cheesecloth or fine strainer to keep it silky. (If you’re into texture, feel free to skip this step-I don’t strain and take the extra fibre as a win.)

  3. Add a pinch of salt because even the healthiest drinks need a little personality, and this helps preserve in the fridge.

  4. Store the concentrate in an airtight container, and let it chill in the fridge for up to two weeks.

*Can multiply to make a larger batch, I usually multiply be 3 for a week worth of concentrate.

Serving Suggestions: Add 2-3 tablespoons of your ginger concentrate to an 8oz glass of water or sparkling water. Adjust to taste because you’re the boss here.

Why You’ll Love It

It’s refreshing, zingy, and makes you feel like you’ve got your life together—even if you’re drinking it out of a chipped mug. Bonus: you’re skipping all the artificial stuff in store-bought ginger ale (even though we still love her and always will) and loading up on actual benefits instead.

Fun Fact

Ginger has been used in skincare for centuries. Cleopatra reportedly loved it for its anti-aging properties, which means this homemade gingerale is practically royalty-approved.

So, here’s to the new year and all the small, healthy habits that might stick longer than your gym membership. Cheers to glowing skin and drinks that actually make you feel good—inside and out.

Later skater,

Samm
