10 Simple Ways to Elevate Your Skincare Routine
Hello Friends and Enemies,
Even if your skin is basically living its best life, there’s always room for improvement. Think of this as the skincare glow-up you didn’t know you needed. These tips are straightforward, effective, and designed to make your routine work smarter, not harder.
1. Double Cleanse Like You Mean It
Washing your face once? Cute. Washing it twice? Genius. Start with an oil-based cleanser to melt away makeup, sunscreen, and the stress of the day. Then follow up with a gentle water-based cleanser for a deep clean. The payoff? Fresher skin and better absorption of all those pricey serums.
2. Wash Your Makeup Brushes (Yes, Regularly)
Your makeup brushes are not self-cleaning. Shocking, I know. Dirty brushes are a breeding ground for bacteria, and they could be sabotaging your skin. Aim to wash them at least once a month—or weekly if you’re feeling ambitious. Trust me, your pores will thank you.
3. Sleep on Silk
Cotton pillowcases? So 2020. Switch to silk for a legit hydration boost and fewer creases on your face in the morning. Bonus: it’s also gentler on your hair, so you wake up looking and feeling like royalty.
4. SPF Is Non-Negotiable
If you’re not wearing sunscreen daily, we need to have words. UV rays are out here causing damage 365 days a year, whether it’s sunny, cloudy, or snowing. Find an SPF you actually like, and make it your daily ritual. Future you (and your skin) will be eternally grateful.
5. Know Thy Skin Type
Using the wrong products for your skin type is like wearing jeans two sizes too small—uncomfortable and not doing you any favors. Whether you’re oily, dry, sensitive, or somewhere in between, tailor your routine to what your skin actually needs.
6. Hydrate From the Inside Out
You’ve heard it before, but it’s worth repeating: drink water. Staying hydrated keeps your skin plump, clear, and glowy. And no, coffee doesn’t count (though we love her). Pro tip: infuse your water to make it more fun! Check out my previous post, and stay tuned for more ways to spice up your regular water.
7. Simplify Your Routine
More products don’t always mean better results. Pare down your lineup to a few hardworking essentials that actually work for your skin. A minimalist routine = less time, less clutter, and happier skin. I always recommend speaking with a skincare professional to see how you can streamline your routine for the best results.
8. Don’t Forget Your Neck, Chest and Hands
Your face is not an island. Extend your skincare to your neck and chest and your hands. Moisturizer, serums, and SPF all belong below the chin. Repeat after me- my face card truly ends ant my nips and fingertips.
9. Exfoliate, But Don’t Overdo It
Exfoliation is key to glowing skin, but more isn’t better. Stick to 1-2 times a week with a gentle exfoliator to slough off dead skin cells and unclog pores. Overdoing it can lead to irritation, and nobody wants that. This will also help to make your makeup application flawless.
10. Get a Humidifier
Winter air is brutal on your skin. Adding a humidifier to your space can work wonders by keeping your skin hydrated while you sleep. Think of it as giving your moisturizer a boost. Bonus: it’s great for your sinuses too.
The Bottom Line
Levelling up your skincare doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming to make a noticeable difference. Small tweaks can elevate your routine and take your results from good to “OMG, what are you using?!” So go ahead, give your skin the glow-up it deserves—you’ve earned it.
May your caffeine hit and your SPF never quit,
